Brits' home moving fears revealed

Property News - Brits' home moving fears revealed

Being left homeless is the number one fear among Brits who are moving house.

The fears people face when moving house have been collated in a new study.

Carried out by Easistore, the research revealed the number one worry among those choosing to relocate is that they may be left temporarily homeless as a result.

According to the investigation, one-third of movers are concerned this might happen should their plans fall through.

This fear is especially pertinent for older Brits, with more than half of over-55s admitting they are apprehensive about this aspect.

The study also revealed one-quarter of respondents are worried their belongings may be damaged during a move, with 30 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds - who may own items such as iPads, PlayStations and computers - claiming this is their number one fear.

And with many people choosing to live in smaller flats and apartments, it was found 22 per cent of Londoners harbour concerns they may not be able to fit all of their possessions into their new abode.

Paul Glenister, managing director of Easistore, noted he is worried by the findings.

The industry figure stated: "Finding short-term accommodation is frustrating enough, let alone working out where to house everything you own."

He added: "Planning ahead by moving cherished or fragile items into temporary storage reduces risk of damage to favourite possessions during the big move."

Getting organised when downsizing a living space could also pay dividends, Mr Glenister pointed out, with self storage offering a means of keeping items safe while moving to a smaller home.

While self storage allows people to move goods in their own time, climate-controlled conditions could be ideal for those looking to preserve delicate works of art.

And the number of people moving home in the UK could be about to increase, as sales director at WMP Group Daniel Cox recently claimed more families are now choosing to rent property than ever before.
