Landlords urged to expand portfolios

Landlords should expand their property portfolios as the rental market is so strong, an expert has said.

Now is a very good time for landlords to consider taking out more buy-to-let mortgages to expand their portfolio further, an expert in the industry believes.

According to Iqbal Hussain, property consultant at Knight Knox International, the lack of home loan finance being made available by banks and building societies in the wake of the recession is making the rental market stronger.

Mr Hussain explained that this trend means any buy-to-let professional who has the means to purchase more homes should take advantage of the current situation.

"Prices are down, people can't sell their houses or sell investments to the investors, so for anyone who has got cash ... it is a good time to purchase anything," he noted.

Earlier this month, research by Countrywide showed that demand for rental property across the UK is still at a record high level.

And Mr Hussain went on to say that access to buy-to-let mortgages has improved over the course of the last two years.
