Property News - New homes to be built in Liverpool?

Around £130 million could be invested in housing in the city.

Around 2,000 new homes look set to be built in Liverpool over the next three years, with £130 million invested in the project.

The city council has unveiled ambitious plans to construct the new dwellings, which will also result in empty properties being used once again.

In addition, a £20 million housing fund could be on the cards, while the introduction of a first-time buyer mortgage scheme might come to fruition.

Councillor Joe Anderson, city council leader, said the investment is the largest of its kind for a number of decades.

Mr Anderson added: "Not only will our housing stock be improved through this and other building schemes which are taking place in the city, but it will [also] create much-needed jobs."

Such developments are coming at a time when the construction sector faces considerable economic challenges and could serve to build more sustainable communities.

The news comes after director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders Brian Berry recently claimed there are positive signs for the UK house building industry in the not-so-distant future.
