UK housing forecast 'mixed'

It is difficult to predict house price trends at present, it has been claimed.

The forecast for the housing market is mixed at present, while predicting trends for the future remains difficult.

This is the suggestion of Catherine Hearnden, director at MyMortgageDirect, who noted property price movement will vary depending on location within the UK.

Ms Hearnden said that while it is hard to anticipate future market movements, it may be wise to keep a close eye on what is taking place in London, as when house prices level off in the capital, it is usual for other regions to follow suit.

The industry figure stated: "I think it is wise to look at London as a guide to what is going to happen. A lot of that will depend on interest rates and jobs."

Her comments come after research recently carried out by the Association of Investment Companies showed that the property market in the UK is starting to regain favour among investors, despite the economic pressures experienced in the last few years.
