Rental demand 'staying strong'

Many people are still looking to rent, it has been suggested.

Demand for rental property in the UK is likely to remain strong for a while yet, it has been claimed.

Alan Ward, chairman at the Residential Landlords Association, noted there are no indications that such a trend is likely to come to an end anytime soon.

The industry figure explained supply is still trailing behind by a considerable amount.

He remarked that although the number of properties available tends to sustain rental levels, this can be dependent on which parts of the UK are being looked at.

"We have got this metropolitan split with the central London market compared to the rest of the country. In certain parts of the country, demand is perhaps slack," the expert observed.

His comments come after a recent report prepared by Michael Ball, professor of Urban and Property Economics at the University of Reading, found rents continue to stay considerably below the levels seen in 2008 when inflation trends are taken into account.
