Around 80 per cent of Britons would like to see more homes built.


Most people in the UK understand the impact of the housing crisis, new research has found.

A survey from YouGov revealed 80 per cent of individuals in the nation would like to see more homes constructed, while 67 per cent said the planning system needs to be sped up.

Stewart Baseley, executive chairman of the House Builders Federation - whose members deliver around 80 per cent of the new properties constructed in the UK every year - noted the study shows the vast majority are clued up on the current needs of the property market.

The industry figure stated: "The housing shortage is having a huge impact on ordinary people, young couples who can't set up home [and] parents called upon to help their children to buy a house."

In addition, the situation is affecting the hundreds of thousands of workers who depending on house building and have lost their jobs as a result.
