Housing 'central to economic plans'

Grant Shapps has highlighted the importance of housing to the UK's economic recovery.

Housing is to play an important part in the UK's economic recovery, it has been claimed.

Grant Shapps, minister of state for communities and local government, has unveiled a number of new measures to assist first-time buyers in their efforts to enter the housing market.

The politician explained prime minister David Cameron is placing the property market at the centre stage of economic revival.

"That's why I'm pulling out all the stops for those who want to get on the property ladder," Mr Shapps went on to point out.

As such, the NewBuy Guarantee scheme will help people to purchase newly-constructed dwellings with a smaller deposit than usual.

In addition, Mr Shapps - who is also the Conservative Member of Parliament for Welwyn Hatfield - explained he is laying the final foundations on a £19 billion deal that will bring the tenants tax to an end and also provide greater freedom for councils.
