South-east 'is best place to live in the UK'Posted: 24 Dec 2012 16:35:01 GMT
Many of the best places to live in England are situated in the south-east.
The south-east could prove a popular destination for those looking to buy a home in the new year.
According to the 2012 Halifax Quality of Life Survey, the top 50 places to live in the UK is dominated by the region, with more than half of the town and cities on the table located in this area.
Indeed, the top five in the list are Hart in Hampshire - which claimed the number one spot - Elmbridge in Surrey, Tunbridge Wells, Wokingham and Waverley.
Martin Ellis, economist at Halifax, said: "Taking a wide range of indicators into account, residents of Hart are still able to say they enjoy the best quality of life in the UK."
Mr Ellis pointed out those living in Hart tend to enjoy good health, low crime, high-quality schooling and decent job prospects.
The findings showed just six areas outside the south of England are included in the top 50, which are Rushcliffe, south Northamptonshire, Rutland, Solihull, south Kesteven and Harborough.
