Property News - Boost to Reading home building

Plans to build more than 100 new homes in Reading are expected to be approved.

The delivery of 125 new council-owned homes is expected to be made possible in the coming days, with local authority proposals expected to be approved by planners.

Reading Borough Council has earmarked 13 sites for development in the area and is prepared to begin the construction of the first new properties in the coming months should the scheme receive the green light next week, Get Reading reports.

In total, the council is investing £8 million into the delivery of these new homes, which are the first of up to 1,000 new council-owned properties that the authority hopes to provide in the coming three decades.

It is hoped that up to 250 of these homes will be completed in the next five years, as council waiting lists in the area are continuing to grow.

The housing crisis is affected all parts of the UK at present and therefore the plan to provide these new homes in Reading have been welcomed.

Reading Borough Council is now working alongside the Homes and Communities Agency to identify further development opportunities that will benefit the local community in the years ahead.
