Property News - Renters rue rushed lettings

Many renters regret their decision to sign up to tenancy agreements for their current property.

A significant proportion of the nation's property renters believe they rushed into agreements regarding their letting and now have regrets.

Research published by lender Ocean Finance has shown that almost one-third (32 per cent) of those living in rented accommodation in the UK believe they rushed into agreement, while 61 per cent stated they are unhappy with some aspect of their home.

Overall, 20 per cent said they feel their current property lacks sufficient space, while 19 per cent revealed their home suffers from a lack of heating.

Other issues highlighted by the poll included a failure to get on with neighbours (13 per cent), an inability to afford the rent (11 per cent) and poor maintenance by landlords (eight per cent).

Responding to the survey's results, Ocean Finance spokesperson Ian Williams commented: "The rise in demand for rental properties is putting pressure on tenants to rush into taking properties that they spend the rest of their tenancy regretting."
