Property News - Housing project goes ahead despite concerns

A new homes project in Bedfordshire has been granted planning permission.

A new homes project near Bedford has been given the green light, despite concerns from local residents and the police.

Bovis Homes will now push ahead with a development of 58 homes at Wootton, after Bedford council backed its plans.

Opposition had come partly from local residents worried about the local flood risk and the impact of the extra traffic.

Bedfordshire Police also had concerns, arguing that the number of through roads in the new estate would attract crime.

Bovis has vowed to work with residents to help make the new development a success and has announced a levelling pond will be created to help mitigate the flood risk.

Speaking to Bedford Today about the council's decision, campaigner against the development Peter Bennett said residents would seek to "engage" with Bovis to make the project as successful as possible, rather than "walk away".

Bovis has pledged that the new estate will include public open space and is setting aside a hectare of land to help a local school expand.
