Property News - FMB: Labour's housing plans make sense

Labour's housing plans have been welcomed by the FMB.

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has given its support to plans put forward by the Labour to deliver more new homes across the country should they win at the upcoming general election.

Announced in the party's pre-election manifesto, Labour has set a clear target of providing a further 200,000 homes per year until 2020 - a commitment that aims to help address the nation's ongoing housing crisis.

In addition, the manifesto outlines the need for more affordable housing in the years ahead, as well as arguing that building more homes is the only viable route to achieving this aim.

Responding to the commitment, FMB chief executive Brian Berry commented: "I am particularly pleased to see the importance of small house builders being recognised - more active SME house builders will guarantee a healthier and more diverse house building market."

He added that a pledge to prioritise capital investment in the sector is also extremely welcome, as is planned reforms to council housing finance to deliver more social housing.
