Property News - Half of Brits 'live close to childhood home'

Almost half of all UK adults live within a 15-mile radius of the place they grew up.

A significant proportion of Brits live their whole lives within 15 miles of where they grew up.

This is the finding of new research from lender Ocean Finance, which polled more than 2,000 UK adults and found that almost half (47 per cent) fall into this category.

Interestingly, nearly one-third of respondents are not willing to venture further than five miles - increasing from less than a quarter (23 per cent) in 2013 to 29 per cent this year - while 23.5 per cent of adults now live more than 100 miles from the area they grew up.

Responding to the results, spokesperson for Ocean Ian Williams commented: "One explanation is that people want to stay close to their family and childhood friends, and also, to give their children a similar upbringing to their own.

"Those who do move further afield may be in search of better job prospects or a better standard of living."
