Property News - Home mover numbers double

Twice the amount of homeowners are planning a move this year than in January 2013.

The number of people planning to move home over the coming 12 months has doubled in the last year, new figures from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks have revealed.

According to the organisation's Annual Housebuyers Research, 14 per cent of property owners (up from seven per cent in January last year) are currently considering the benefits of moving up the property ladder.

Meanwhile, 58 per cent of respondents (down from 62 per cent) are planning to stay in their current home this year and 22 per cent (the same proportion as in 2013) are looking to improve or extend.

Andrew Pearce, retail director for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said: "A new year is traditionally a time for planning and looking ahead and our survey has shown that moving home is again becoming a priority for many people."

Optimism also surrounds property values for owners right now, with just three per cent of homeowners believing their property will diminish in value over the coming 12 months.
